BACKGROUND

  • Free to Play (F2P) games have been around for a while now, and are undoubtedly an integral part of the digital gaming industry. Companies behind sports and professional leagues see F2P as an opportunity to engage and stay connected with fans and drive revenue.

  • They have been used as an effective tool to drive fan engagement for fantasy sports and sports betting. F2P games are already being used by many media and sports companies to better engage with fans.

The rise of real time gaming...

  • A strategy that has really helped gaming operators acquire and retain customers, is offering F2P in partnership with popular leagues, teams, bookmakers & media companies. All of these games follow a similar model – they ask fans to answer a few predictive questions before the start of the game or at halftime to stand a chance of winning cash and other prizes... The birth of the 'Pick 'Em'.

  • Low6 produce innovative iGames for sports franchises, betting operators and media outlets to best engage with their fans and customers, helping with new customer acquisition, driving conversion and retention and maximize their profits.

I have helped design a number of F2P Pick 'Em style games and below are a few examples...

SUMMARY

  • This was a basic concept app to be pitched to clients, primarily online bookmakers, franchises and sporting events.

  • The pick 'em style app would make the fan feel more engaged with the sport they’re watching, e.g. a live event or watching a world Cup round on TV.

  • If linked to an affiliate bookmaker or franchise, it can help push new customers & business their way.

  • For this specific instance, the client is all about greyhound racing, e.g. the user is at a greyhound racing event and the pick ‘em style app needs to keep them engaged with the races throughout the event.

  • The product must easily be tailored to specific sports, teams, franchises, industries, etc so it can easily be rolled out to specific clients.

  • Create a set of hi-fidelity screens to showcase the concept app.

BRIEF

MY PROCESS & DELIVERABLES

    • Game lobby area

    • Game rules & prizing

    • The picks process

  • Create multiple flows, that show different outcomes, e.g. different wins & losses

My Role

UI Designer

  • As previously mentioned, a great way for online bookmakers to obtain new customers is through the use of fan engagement apps, with the simple pick 'em game being the perfect way, here is a prime example for the bookmaker Sportsbet.io.

  • The app can be kitted out in the company's branding and users can be given access to special offers whilst interacting with the game.

SUMMARY

  • Again as standard, the product must easily be tailored to a specific sport, team, franchise, client, etc.

  • Increase revenue for both the company and the chain brands we work with as a partnership.

  • Create a social experience that encourages friendly competition.

  • Design a highly-engaging gameplay that keeps users coming back for more

BRIEF

  • Create a basic design system for the app, e.g. colour palette, typography, icons, Figma components

  • Research Sportsbet.io to find out which clubs & players their brand is associated with and try to incorporate them into the designs.

  • Create static screens for the following areas within the app...

    • The in-game picks process

    • Leaderboards
